John Calipari’s U19 USA team keeps on rolling, and they’re on to the FIBA U19 World Cup Quarterfinal. After beating Mali, the US team will take on Germany on Friday in the Quarterfinal for a shot at the “Final Four” of the FIBA World Cup.
The Wildcats dominated in Team USA’s win over Mali in the Round of 16, with P.J. Washington scoring 20 points, and Hamidou Diallo scoring 14. The 117-69 victory gave Team USA its fourth straight win of 40+ points.
Germany got past Tai Wynyard’s New Zealand team in the Round of 16, beating them 72-65. They were led by Oscar Da Silva, who scored 12 points, dropped five assists and recorded three steals.
If the Wildcat-led Team USA can get past Germany, they’ll play either France or Canada in the semifinal. Canada would feature 2019 star recruit R.J. Barrett, who could reclassify into the 2018 class.
Even so, with Diallo and Washington playing the way they have, it’s hard to see anyone stopping this USA team, especially this early in the bracket.
