Cameron Reddish trims list, Kentucky Wildcats make the cut

A host of blue bloods and recent national champs make up Reddish’s final list.

USA Basketball

Cameron Reddish has trimmed his list of schools in the running for the elite wing.

To no surprise, Kentucky and Duke both made the final cut, as they’ve viewed as the favorites in this recruitment.

Joining those two were UCLA, Villanova and UConn, though most experts project this to be a two-horse race between the Cats and Blue Devils. Duke currently leads the 247 Crystal Ball for Reddish, though UK has picked up some recent picks.

UK and John Calipari probably made up a lot of ground in this recruitment thanks to the Team USA U19 team, which included Reddish and was coached by Calipari.

Getting to spend a month together certainly had to help UK in this race, but it remains to be seen if it was enough to pass Duke, who’s been viewed as the leader in this recruitment for the past year.

What will be interesting to see is how UK prioritizes Reddish, Zion Williamson and R.J. Barrett in the Class of 2018. All three are viewed as small forwards at the college level. Both UK and Duke are in the running for all three, though it looks like UK is leading for Williamson and Duke for Reddish.

Is Reddish willing to play with one or both of Barrett and Williamson? Does he prefer one over the other?

These are things that could affect his recruitment, though I don’t think it affects UK’s plans. They’re pushing hard to get Zion in the fall and probably would want Barrett over Reddish, but that’s just guessing at this point.

Knowing John Calipari, he’s going to go all out to get all three guys. I doubt that happens, but this is Calipari we’re talking about, so no recruiting feat seems impossible.
