R.J. Barrett is officially joining the Class of 2018.
Barrett would likely become the No. 2 or 3 player in the class while challenging Zion Williamson and Marvin Bagley III for the top spot. It’s very possible that Barrett ends up being the class’ top player, as he possesses a rare level of talent that would have him ranked No. 1 in a lot of classes.
It’s also possible that Bagley reclassifies into 2017, leaving Barrett to battle Williamson for the top spot. Kentucky is in great shape for both players, and it’s not crazy to think John Calipari could land both, but we’re still a ways from Barrett deciding.
As for his recruitment, Barrett mentioned Kentucky among a host of schools recruiting him the hardest.
“On my recruitment, I will say that the schools that are showing the most interest are Arizona, Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Oregon, Texas and UCLA,” said Barrett. “A few more have reached out and those schools are Illinois, Indiana, Michigan State, USC, UConn and UNLV.”
I’d expect Duke and Kentucky to get official visits from Barrett at some point. Those are the two perceived leaders in his recruitment, though Kansas has been another school drawing buzz.
