Naz Reid recruiting update: 5-star big man looking heavily at LSU Tigers; wants to visit Kentucky Wildcats

Reid is one of the top recruits in the 2018 class.

Naz Reid is one of the 2018 recruits Kentucky has been keeping an eye on, but the 6-10 big man from New Jersey may be looking to go even further south.

In an interview with Adam Zagoria, Reid (ranked #11 by the 247 Sports National Composite) said that he had a great visit with LSU.

“It was good,” he said. “The school was bigger than I thought it was. There were a lot of interesting things. I saw the football stadium is big, the basketball court is big. The team is very family united, I like that. That’s a big thing. I feel like there’s a lot family-wise going on there.”

LSU has gained a lot of momentum in Reid’s recruitment, especially since the hiring of Will Wade. 247’s Crystal Ball has the Tigers as the overwhelming favorite with 78 percent of the predictions. Kentucky is next highest with 11 percent.

According to Zagoria, Reid talks with 2018 LSU commit Javonte Smart as well as 2017 LSU commit Tremont Waters. Reid’s girlfriend is also an incoming freshmen on LSU’s women’s team, all factors that could lead him toward Baton Rouge.

But Reid also jumped in on all the package deal talk lately, saying that he and AAU teammate Jahvon Quinerly could be a package deal.

Quinerly is one of the top point guards in the class, and is seen as a heavy Arizona lean. If the two want to form a package deal, Arizona could be the destination, but Reid told Zagoria that the duo plans to visit UCLA and Kansas together.

Reid still lacks an offer from Kentucky, but said that he hopes to receive one soon. He also said he hopes to taken an official visit to Kentucky at some point this fall. That would seem to indicate he’s still very interested in John Calipari’s program, so much so that an offer could put Kentucky at or near the top of Reid’s list.

Reid will surely be a name that continues to pop up through the 2018 recruiting cycle.
