The Kentucky Wildcats are showing more interest in 2018 five-star shooting guard Keldon Johnson, according to Jeff Borzello.

UK’s interest in Johnson was first reported in May, though there hasn’t been much noise in this recruitment since then, as UK had been focusing on Romeo Langford as its No. 1 shooting guard target.

Johnson, a five-star guard from South Hill (VA), will play his junior season at Huntington Prep in West Virginia. He was previously ranked as the No. 1 player in the state of Virginia. 247 Sports ranks the 6-5, 200-pound guard as the 11th-best prospect in 2018, while ESPN has him at 13th.

Johnson is being recruited heavily by Maryland and Texas. He’s heavily favored to go to Texas on 247 Sports’ Crystal Ball, but that could change if Kentucky gets seriously involved. Johnson does have offers from rivals Louisville and Indiana. He has yet to receive an offer from Calipari, but that could change now that UK appears to be fading with Langford. Calipari may try to make a push for Johnson in order to make sure he doesn’t lose out on a five-star two guard this year.

In an interview with the Lexington Herald Leader, Johnson discussed his interest in UK, who he isn’t rushing to get an offer from. He knows that getting an offer from Calipari and UK can take time, but he’s willing to wait for it.

Hopefully if UK is seriously interested, an offer comes in the near future.
