With SEC Media Days here, the Kentucky Wildcats have released their first official roster and depth chart for the 2017 college football season.
There are virtually no surprises early on as nearly every starter was someone expected to earn that position. Whether they keep or not into the regular season remains to be seen, but for now, it’s an early projection of what the Week 1 lineup would look like.
That includes Stephen Johnson opening as the starting quarterback, a job he’ll be given every opportunity to keep for the duration of his senior season. Listed as his current backup is junior Drew Barker ‘OR’ redshirt freshman Gunnar Hoak, so it looks like that spot is still very much up for grabs.
At running back, Benny Snell is the starter with Boom Williams off to the NFL. Snell’s backup will be a good battle between junior Sihiem King and redshirt freshman A.J. Rose since this too has an ‘OR’ designation.
One notable newcomer on the depth chart is true freshman Clevan Thomas, who listed as the second-team “F” receiver behind senior Garrett Johnson. Thomas was an early enrollee and participated in spring football, so it looks like he’s made a great impression thus far.
Here is the entire two-deep depth chart:
