The Kentucky Wildcats will have a new opponent in the SEC-Big 12 matchup this year after facing off against Kansas the last two years.
The Wildcats will face the West Virginia Mountaineers on Jan. 27 in Morgantown, and John Calipari said that Mountaineers Head Coach Bob Huggins is overjoyed.
“Bob Huggins heard before I did and he was so happy,” Calipari told The Cats’ Pause during the SEC spring meeting in Sandestin.
Calipari said Huggins told him that he is “doing backflips” with the news that the Wildcats will be traveling to Morgantown.
Calipari said that it was neat for both programs.
“Hatfields and McCoys,” he added.
Kentucky has not played in Morgantown since 1970, according to The Cats’ Pause writer Darrell Bird. Kentucky won that matchup in a thriller by a score of 106-100.
The overall series favors Kentucky, with the Wildcats winning 9 of the last 10. The last matchup between the two squads came during the 2015 NCAA Tournament, where Kentucky handled WVU by a score of 78-39 in the Sweet 16.
If you forgot about that game, here are some highlights to refresh your memory.
