The release of the Orlando Summer League roster reveals that three former Kentucky Wildcats will participate: Bam Adebayo with the Miami Heat, Dakari Johnson with the Oklahoma City Thunder and Derek Willis with the Detroit Pistons.
Malik Monk is apart of the Charlotte Hornets, but is doubtful to play in Orlando due to the injury he suffered during workouts.
The Orlando league will last one week, featuring 20 games. You can catch all the games on NBA TV. There will be eight teams: the Charlotte Hornets, Dallas Mavericks, Detroit Pistons, Indiana Pacers, Miami Heat, New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder and the Orlando Magic.
There will be a ton of Wildcats participating in the Summer Leagues. The Utah League rosters and and Las Vegas League rosters will be released later.
Of all the former Cats playing in Orlando, Johnson is the guy hoping to finally break through and make an NBA roster. Johnson, a member of the Oklahoma City Blue in the G-League, started 49 games last season en route to All NBA D-League honors. He averaged 18.5 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game, while shooting 55.7 percent from the floor and 68.4 percent from the charity stripe.
A good showing in the summer league could help Johnson and the other former Cats make NBA rosters this coming season, though Bam has already been assured of that after being a lottery pick this year.
