You can add Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to the list of Wildcats getting a U19 national team tryout. However, this one won’t be for Cal’s team.
The Canadian native made the tryout list for Canada’s U19 team, along with 2019 prospect R.J. Barrett, according to ZagsBlog. Barrett is drawing interest from Kentucky, and he’s considering reclassifying to the 2018 recruiting class. If he does so, he’ll immediately be a top-five prospect and someone UK is a real threat to land, though Duke is presumed to be the early favorite.
As for Alexander, he is the fifth Cat to make a tryout list, as Hamidou Diallo, P.J. Washington and Kevin Knox are all trying out for Team USA, while Tai Wynyard is trying out for New Zealand.
Both the Canadians and Cal’s U.S. team will compete with other U19 teams from around the world in Egypt this July, competing for the FIBA U19 World Basketball Cup.
