Back in late April, John Calipari said his 2017 class wasn’t quite done.
We’re now in the second week of May, not long after UK landed five-star wing Kevin Knox. That gave UK eight pledges in the Class of 2017 (if you count Hamidou Diallo), an absurd number for a basketball class.
Calipari still isn’t quite done just yet. With five-star forward Mohamed Bamba still available, as well as Pitt graduate transfer Cameron Johnson, Calipari isn’t ready to pump his chest about his current class as it stands.
“We’re not done yet,” Calipari told SEC Country of his current eight-man class. “So when we get done with everything, I’ll talk about that class.”
Calipari seems confident that UK will add at least one more player, though it’s not like that have a lot of room for more bodies. If Diallo stays, UK only has two more roster spots, and it’s unlikely Johnson will want to come here if both Diallo and Knox are on the roster.
But if Diallo leaves, there’s a good chance Johnson comes here. There’s also Mt. Saint Mary’s transfer Miles Wilson as a potential darkhorse. Diallo, Johnson, Wilson and Bamba are who’s in the running for those final 2-3 roster spots, and I feel good about at least one of them joining UK’s already-loaded 2017 class.
