The Kentucky Wildcats will face a Big 12 opponent next season as part of the SEC - Big 12 Challenge. Who that is remains to be seen, but it looks like the West Virginia Mountaineers are the early favorite.
According to Oscar Combs, Kentucky could be on the road for next year’s challenge to face WVU in Morgantown:
Hearing from a birdie, through the grapevine, UK may be traveling to Morgantown to play West Virginia in SEC-Big 12 Challenge this winter.— Oscar Combs (@wildcatnews) April 25, 2017
It makes sense that Kentucky would be on the road, being that they played at home for the challenge this past season, and the leagues try to alternate home and way each year.
The Cats haven’t had much luck in the SEC - Big 12 Challenge recently thanks to a pair of losses to Kansas. The Cats are 1-3 in the challenge with a loss to Baylor in 2013, followed by a win over Texas the following season.
WVU is projected as a top-15 team next season. NBC Sports projects the Mountaineers to be ranked No. 12 next season.
