Good morning, ladies and gentlemen of the Big Blue Nation, and welcome to the Tuesday Morning Quickies.
I don’t know how many of you got to catch the ESPN “30 for 30” documentary One and Not Done about John Calipari last Thursday, but I hope it was a lot. It was a really well-done affair that touched on the good, the bad, and the ugly. For the most part, though, one big factor showed through, and that was Coach Cal’s commitment to his players and the bond that they create together. You should catch it on replay if you can.
MassLive has an article today about ten things they learned from One and Not Done. I didn’t know about Coach Cal’s willingness to visit players regardless of their circumstances, but I’m not even the least bit surprised.
I’m not sure I agree with all the author’s conclusion about how the documentary painted Calipari, but I do agree with the rest. This didn’t seem like a overly positive piece to me, but perhaps that’s my bias talking.
Anyway, it’s good stuff that every Kentucky fan would enjoy. My wife typically doesn’t care for this kind of film, and she absolutely loved it — so consider that a recommendation.

Calipari, as always, is on the case.
Your Quickies:
Kentucky football
-
Drake Jackson, an interior lineman who redshirted last season, can’t wait to join his classmates Landon Young and Kash Daniel on the field.
-
Kentucky’s improved depth highlighted throughout the spring. Depth has been a problem at UK for so long, hearing this is like finding a Gatorade in the middle of the desert.
-
Projected post-spring depth chart. Gunnar Hoak definitely made a move. Kayaune Ross is a surprise to me, considering the competition for the spot. Good to see AJ Rose in position for the #2 back spot.
Kentucky basketball
-
2017 recruit Mark Smith, guard out of Illinois, talks about his recruitment, what Calipari told him, and who else is in the mix.
-
Draft Express evaluates the strengths and weaknesses of De’Aaron Fox.
-
Coach Cal visited Romeo Langford last night. He’s a 6‘5” shooting guard out of New Albany, Indiana, and the #3 player in the nation for 2018
-
This SB Nation mock draft has Malik Monk going 6th to Philadelphia and De’Aaron Fox going #8 to Sacramento.
-
To win another NCAA Tournament title, Kentucky will need a post player that dominates on both ends of the floor, Keith Peel writes for Vaught’s Views.
Other Kentucky sports
-
Former Bat Cat JT Riddle hits a walk-off home run for the Miami Marlins to down the New York Mets on Saturday. You gotta watch the video, it’s awesome. Reminds me of my childhood. I gotta start watching baseball again.

Battle-tested Bat Cats head into a challenging week of top-10 opponents.

Other sports news
- Kentucky trails North Carolina, Texas, UCLA, and Duke in former players on teams in the NBA Playoffs. Frankly, that’s because most of our players wind up going to bad teams because of high draft placements.
