Bat Cats Drop A Few Spots in New College Baseball Top 25 Polls

Despite losing 4 of 5, Kentucky did not plummet too far in the polls.

The excitement of the Bat Cats first ascension into the top ten of the Nick Mingione era was quickly spoiled by a rough week on the diamond.

Kentucky (22-11, 8-4) went 1-3 last week against stiff competition in the form of in-state rival Louisville and SEC stalwart Mississippi State. A late rally against the Cardinals fell short thanks to a pickoff play, and UK blew consecutive three-run leads against the Bulldogs.

However, Kentucky did not plummet too far in the polls. In the USA Today Coaches Poll, Kentucky dropped four spots from No. 10 to 14.

Baseball America has Kentucky in the No. 15 spot, down just two slots from the previous week.

Only D1Baseball.com still has the Cats in the top ten. Kentucky is ranked No. 10 in the survey after posting a No. 8 ranking the week prior.

Kentucky is one of seven SEC schools ranked in the various polls. LSU, Florida, Auburn, Arkansas, South Carolina, and Mississippi State all found themselves ranked this week.

The Wildcats return to Cliff Hagan Stadium for a brief one-game homestand against the University of Tennessee-Martin on Wednesday before hitting the circuit again this weekend for a three-game series against Missouri.
