Two 2014 Kentucky football Cats, linebackers Nico Firios and Kobie Walker, have recently announced that they will be transferring from the program.
Firios’ announcement came on Monday, followed by the announcement about Walker coming Thursday after a UK spokesman confirmed the latest defection.
Both were three-star recruits coming to Kentucky, with Firios coming out of Lyman High School in Florida and Walker coming from Good Counsel in Maryland. They join De’Niro Laster as linebackers to recently transfer from the program.
Firios played in all 13 games last year, primarily contributing on special teams and making five total tackles.
Walker played in three games last season, including the opener against Southern Miss where he had 10 total tackles.
According to Jen Smith of the Herald-Leader, new Kentucky defensive coordinator Matt House did not seem too concerned with depth at linebacker, noting the return of both Courtney Love and Jordan Jones with Kash Daniel, Eli Brown, and early enrolee Jamin Davis providing depth at the position.
Firios and Walker are two more in a list of around a dozen players from Kentucky’s 2014 recruiting class to leave the program.
