The Wildcats wrap up the season at College Station against the Aggies

NCAA Basketball: Texas A&M at Kentucky Mark Zerof-USA TODAY Sports

The Kentucky Wildcats wrap up their regular season on Saturday when they go on the road to take on the Texas A&M Aggies.

The Wildcats got the best of the Aggies earlier in the season on Jan. 3 in a rout at Rupp Arena by a score of 100-58. The Wildcats jumped out to a 15-3 lead early in the game and never looked back, as four Wildcats scored in double figures led by Malik Monk with 26 and De’Aaron Fox with 15.

The Wildcats shot 52 percent from the floor and made 13-25 three pointers while forcing the Aggies into 25 turnovers in one of the best all-around performances for the Wildcats this season.

That loss was part of a 1-5 conference stretch for the Aggies, but they have showed some improvement as of late, winning three of their last four.

The Aggies have played top 25 teams close this season for the most part, falling to UCLA (74-67), Arizona (67-63), West Virginia (81-77), and Florida (71-62).

The Aggies are led by a trio of sophomores in big man Tyler Davis (14.1 ppg, 6.9 rpg), guard Admon Gilder (13.9 ppg, 3.9 apg), and forward DJ Hogg (12 ppg). Freshman forward Robert Williams is also a big contributor (11.7 ppg, 7.9 rpg, and a conference-leading 2.6 blocks per game (tied with Arkansas forward Moses Kingsley). Gilder and Davis led the Aggies in the first matchup with 13 points each.

The Aggies have been able to cause problems for teams defensively this season, and it is highly unlikely that we will see a replica of Kentucky’s Jan. 3 performance. However, Kentucky will likely not want to get into a defensive battle with an Aggies squad that held both UCLA and Arizona under 75 points.

This game will hold some significance as Kentucky looks to continue building momentum toward a postseason run. A Wildcats win (barring disaster in the SEC Tournament) would place Kentucky firmly on the 2-seed line in the NCAA Tournament, while also still leaving the door open for a 1-seed if teams above them struggle to finish out the season.

Going on the road in the SEC is always a challenge, so I expect a much closer game this time around. Let call this one Kentucky 73, Texas A&M 65
