Good morning and welcome to the Tuesday Morning Quickies. Tonight is Senior Night in the Bluegrass, and only once in John Calipari’s career have three seniors of this significance been on the roster for senior day, and arguably never three as significant as Dominique Hawkins, Derek Willis, and Mychal Mulder.
According to reports (and tradition), Coach Cal will start his seniors tonight in the Vanderbilt game. As much as all three have played lately, that lineup will not look all that unfamiliar. Willis and Hawkins playing together has been part of the 2nd and 7th most used lineup in recent games. Mulder typically plays with Isaiah Briscoe in the game.
This will be a memorable senior night, since two of the guys are actually from Kentucky, something that has become progressively more rare over the years. It should be a good one, and Vandy-UK promises to be a good game if the Commodores come correctly into Rupp Arena. It’s criminally wrong that it’s a late game and the senior night celebrations have to wait so long.

Ah, memories.
Your Quickies:
Kentucky football
- Kentucky offers 2018 prospect Lavonte Valentine from Melbourne, Florida. He’s considered an under-the-radar prospect.
Kentucky basketball
-
Three senior contributors a rarity for John Calipari’s Kentucky teams. Rarity indeed. Last time we had three senior contributors at any level was Calipari’s first season.
-
Mark Story’s most memorable senior nights, among other observations.
I would include Chuck Hayes’ and Josh Carrier’s senior night in that list.
-
Well, if teams above us lose and we don’t, I guess it could happen…
Joe Lunardi just said that because UNC lost, Louisville, the Pac-12 champ (Oregon) & Kentucky are now back in the hunt for a 1-seed.

John Calipari on the UK seniors:
"It’s not easy, it’s not for everybody," Calipari said. "Is this what you want before you come in, and if it is, you’ll stick it out. If you’re delusional sometimes you’ll say, ‘You know, I thought I’d be … ’ What? There’s no magic wand here. Not every kid within 6 months is going to be all this and this. Sometimes it takes guys longer."
-
Calipari claims not to know if Fox will go tonight, but I strongly suspect he will.
-
Derek Willis on senior night:
-
Dominque Hawkins on senior night:
-
Mychal Mulder on senior night:

UK Baseball comes off struggles away from home to meet the Eastern Kentucky Colonels in the home opener today. Given the weather forecast, a rainout looks likely.

John Gasaway’s Tuesday Truths is not to be missed by any serious college basketball fan. So get reading, it’s a one-and-a-half cup effort, but well worth the time.
By the way, his game of the week is… tonight’s game in Rupp.

It takes a big comeback for Kansas to save their senior night, but they get it done. Frank Mason is a special player.
-
Would a win by Vanderbilt tonight clinch them a spot in the NCAA Tournament? Probably not clinch it, but it might put them in for now.
-
They do play hard.
People should make a point to watch West Virginia just to see how hard Jevon Carter plays on every possession. The epitome of relentless.
