The 7-1 Kentucky Wildcats are set to play in the Citi Hoops Classic this Saturday, as they take on the Monmouth Hawks at 12:00 pm on ESPNU.

Kentucky is coming off a hard-fought victory over Harvard, while Monmouth is coming off a heart-wrenching losses to Hofstra and UConn.

The loss to UConn saw Monmouth’s Micah Seaborn have 27-point performance in which he drained five three-pointers. Despite the stellar performance from Seaborn, Jalen Adams for UConn put in 31 points, along with hitting the jumper to go up one in overtime with 30 seconds left.

Seaborn followed that up with a 23-point outing against Hofstra, including 3-of-5 three-point shooting, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Hofstra from rallying for an 85-84 win, thanks to a game-winner from Hofstra’s Jalen Ray in the closing seconds.

Seaborn has now scored 50 points over his last two games, so you can bet stopping him will be one of, if not the biggest priority for Kentucky in sAturday’s matchup.

Monmouth has had a rough start to the season. With a record of 3-6, the Hawks aren’t playing like the potential tournament team some saw to start the year.

The Cats are coming off a competitive game against the Harvard Crimson this past Saturday. Hamidou Diallo poured in 19 and Kevin Knox ended the game with 20. These two have solidified themselves as Kentucky’s #1 and #2 options on the offensive side of the ball.

Just when everyone thought that Quade Green was finally earning the starting point guard role, he struggles while Shai played great. They each played nearly 30 min. Shai went for 12 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block, while Quade only wen for 2 points, 2 rebounds, and 5 assists.

As the season goes on, it’s going to be interesting to see which guy gets the nod to lead the team when it’s crunch time.
