Joel Justus seems to be the Kentucky assistant tasked with jumping on recruits early, and as such, Justus was back in his home state of North Carolina yesterday to visit two 2019 prospects.
Five-star forward Wendell Moore and rising prospect Jaelyn Withers received visits from Justus during his trip, according to Chris Fisher of Cats Pause.
The 6’5 Moore is ranked 25th in the 2019 class by the 247 Sports Composite and has received a lot of interest from Duke, North Carolina, and NC State. Moore recently released a top ten list, which did not include Kentucky, so it is interesting that Kentucky is trying to jump in the game for him.
On the other hand, Justus has been involved with Withers, who continues to gain attention. The 6’8 forward holds offers from Clemson, Georgia Tech, Kansas State, NC State, and Virginia Tech.
Justus also visited Withers back in October, according to Fisher.
Withers seems to be an under-the-radar type guy that could start getting some major attention too. It sounds like the UK coaches want to get in on him early and maybe even see him as a guy who could stick around for two, three, or four years and develop in Lexington.
It sounds like Withers in particular could be a guy to keep an eye on in the 2019 class. So far, Kentucky has offered seven prospects in the class. James Wiseman, Tyrese Maxey, Scottie Lewis, Bryan Antoine, Keion Brooks, Vernon Carey, and D.J. Jeffries all have confirmed offers in 2019.
