Five-star small forward D.J. Jeffries was bombarded by fans asking for autographs and pictures and telling him to go to Kentucky following his 35-point 11-rebound game at the Marshall County Hoopfest. He clearly has some interest in Kentucky.
“People in Kentucky, they love their basketball team,” Jeffries said, according to Joe Mussatto of SEC Country. “I feel like that’s something I probably want to be a part of.”
He also had nice things to say about head coach John Calipari, who was in attendance to see Jeffries play.
“He’s one of the legendary coaches, so it feels good that he came to watch me play,” Jeffries said, according to Mussatto.
Jeffries is still weighing his options though. He’s got 18 offers, and is being recruited by the likes of Texas A&M, Florida, LSU, Georgia, Alabama, Ole Miss, Missouri, Mississippi Sate, Wake Forest, Wichita State, North Carolina and others.
Jeffries is the No. 18 player in the class of 2019, according to 247 Sports.

Jeffries of course isn’t the only one at the Hoopfest considering Kentucky. Though Zan Payne is in a much different situation, Kentucky is still an option for him.
The son of UK assistant Kenny Payne, Zan has a chance to walk-on at Kentucky if he’d like, though it appears to be a backup plan.
Payne currently doesn’t have any Division I offers. He says his father would prefer that he play DI elsewhere.
“I’ve talked to him a little bit about it,” Zan said, according to Ben Roberts of the Lexington Herald Leader. “He’d rather me play DI somewhere else though. If not, I’d walk on at Kentucky.”
Zan also told Roberts that he spends a lot of time at Kentucky’s practice facilities and around Kentucky’s coaches and players, which helps him.
You can read the rest of Roberts’ story here, which talks about Zan’s performance at the Hoopfest and how he’s doing so far in his senior season at Lexington Catholic.
