The Kentucky Wildcats had one of the more memorable SEC openers in the John Calipari era on Sunday against the Georgia Bulldogs.
In a game where neither team could hit a shot in the first half, both teams had a back-and-forth affair in the second half that saw the Cats come out on top, 66-61.
Once again, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was the star of the show, recording his second straight game of 20-plus point to pace the Cats.
UK needed every point with many guys struggling on offense, including Kevin Knox going 2-of-10 for seven points. Thankfully, the Cats got a combined 36 points from Shai and Quade Green, but it was a three-pointer by Wenyen Gabriel in the final minute that proved to be the biggest shot of the game.
The Cats gave fans a scare in the final minutes by missing free throws and giving Georgia life, but in the end, the home team held on for their first SEC win. It wasn’t easy, but they’ll take it.
