The Kentucky Wildcats and Georgia Bulldogs go head-to-head today at Rupp Arena, with each team looking to get conference play started off with a victory.

For Kentucky, there is no time to rest after a beat-down of the rival Louisville Cardinals on Friday, as they have a quick turnaround before today’s game. Kentucky had arguably their best showing of the year in the 90-61 rout of the team down the road.

But now, Kentucky will have to put it together again as the Georgia Bulldogs come into Lexington. The Bulldogs have won back-to-back games against Georgia Tech and Temple, and should come in rested not having played since Dec. 22.

The Bulldogs enter today’s matchup at 9-2, with losses to San Diego State and UMass. They boast solid wins over Saint Mary’s and on the road at Marquette.

The Wildcats should have their hands full with Bulldogs star forward Yante Maten, who comes in nearly averaging a double double with 20.2 points and 9.3 rebounds per game while shooting better than 40 percent from behind the arc.

Hopefully Kentucky can build off the positive momentum from the Louisville game and carry it over on a short break to kick off SEC play with a win.

Kentucky assistant Tony Barbee really likes this team’s zone defense. How much of it we will see going forward remains to be seen, but this team has had some success with it.

The SEC is implementing collaborative instant replay for conference play and the 2018 SEC Tournament. It should be interesting to see how frequently it is used and what kind of impact it has on games.
