The Kentucky Wildcats will be without one of their top defenders in the Music City Bowl.
On Tuesday, head coach Mark Stoops announced that Denzil Ware would not play in the bowl due to a violation of team rules. Stoops declined further comment on why Ware will miss the game, but regardless, this is a big loss for an already-struggling UK defense.
Ware has racked up 12 sacks over the last two seasons from his outside linebacker spot. He also has 118 total tackles and 21 tackles for loss over that span.
Ware was also thought to be considering an early exit to the NFL. The junior could leave for the 2018 NFL Draft, though he wasn’t believed to be seriously considering the jump. He’s not gotten much NFL buzz, but he’s still likely getting feedback from the draft advisory board as to whether he should go pro or return to college.
This was one of the last things UK needed as they get set to take on the 9-3 Northwestern Wildcats on Friday.
