What a game.
The Kentucky Wildcats looked down for the count when Virginia Tech went up 46-39 late in the first half and seemingly couldn’t miss from deep. But the Cats would clamp down and go on a Hokies 39-25 run into the second half to pull off a 93-86 win and improve to 9-1.
One of the best three-point shooting teams in college basketball, Virginia Tech didn’t make a three from the 1:48 mark in the first half until the 2:40 mark in the second half. That allowed Kentucky to take command, though the Hokies did make a late push to trim the lead to single digits.
Kentucky led by eight with 3:06 to go, but then by just two with 1:17 remaining, after the Hokies’ ninth made three-pointer trimmed the score to 85-83.
That’s when Hamidou Diallo stepped back and hit a dagger three to effectively ice the game for Kentucky. Diallo finished 4-of-7 from deep and 7-of-16 overall to finish with 20 points.
