Amidst all the craziness that’s going on with the Auburn Tigers Basketball program right now, their head coach, Bruce Pearl, refuses to cooperate with any of it.
Pearl, as you may remember, was once fired as head coach of the Tennessee Volunteers for, among other things, lying to NCAA investigators about a recruiting violation that occurred at a seemingly harmless cookout.
Now, Pearl may be in trouble yet again for not being more forthcoming about a scandal he’s involved with. ESPN’s Mark Schlabach said this earlier today:
“Auburn men’s basketball coach Bruce Pearl is refusing to cooperate in the school’s internal investigation into his program, and university officials have advised him that his job is in jeopardy if he doesn’t, sources told ESPN on Wednesday.”
Even before this investigation started, Pearl had already been involved in a few recruiting scandals. Whether it was directly related to Bruce or not, there are existing problems within the program. On top of all of this, he continues to disassociate himself with any wrongdoing.
The fact that Pearl isn’t cooperating is just making his case worse. If he really had nothing to do with players like Austin Wiley and Daniel Purifoy receiving money, then why not help the FBI? The only thing that it could do is help the situation.
With all of these scandals going on, Pearl appears to be at serious risk of losing his job. If you’re Auburn, why would you keep Pearl past this season? There are too many scandals that are going on with the program that he’s supposed to be in charge of.
What looked to be a promising season from Auburn could turn out to be a total disaster. This could set their program back even further than before Pearl got there.
