The University of Kentucky Cheerleading team has been asked to perform at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
This is a huge honor for the team, and it speaks volumes as to how good they are. In fact, USA Cheer is the organization that chose the Cats to represent the USA at this winter’s Olympics. USA Cheer oversees all of the cheerleading squads in the country, ensuring that each one is in compliance with the rules and regulations of cheerleading. It’s a huge honor for any team to be considered, let alone picked!
The team will be performing at the awards ceremonies, Olympic venues, street parades, closing ceremonies and a cheerleading championship with teams from other countries.
This will be an amazing experience for the team that will make the University and everyone involved proud.
Here’s a quote from Lauri Harris, Executive Director of USA Cheer, reported from Cheer Daily:
“We are proud to send the University of Kentucky to represent the United States of America,” Harris says. “The cheerleaders from the University of Kentucky have engaged crowds and elevated spirit for generations, and have won countless national championships and we are excited to have them show their talent and spirit on the world stage.”
Clearly, this team is respected by many different people from all over the world.
Here’s Jomo Thompson, head coach of the UK Cheer team, talking about how amazing of an opportunity this is:
“Our athletes are among the finest in the country and appreciate this opportunity to participate in the activities surrounding the Olympic Games. They take this responsibility seriously and are looking forward to representing American cheerleading in Korea.”
The saying “blue gets in” could never be more true now. Good luck to the Cheer team as they prepare to represent the USA for cheerleading in this winter’s Olympics!
