John Calipari makes an interesting recruiting remark

Cal wants to add “one more guy,” but in what regard?

Lost in the shuffle of UK’s 92-67 win over Morehead State was an offhand comment from John Calipari about recruiting.

Sure, Calipari is always on the recruiting trail, so when he said he was meeting with a recruit on Tuesday, that didn’t come as much of a surprise. In fact, it could be to meet with Zion Williamson, being that a UK coach will reportedly meet with the five-star forward that same day.

However, Calipari is also set to meet with Tyler Hero on Tuesday, so it’s unclear if he’ll meet with Herro and Zion, or if he’ll just meet Herro and have another assistant meet with Zion. Either way, Calipari hitting the recruiting trail Tuesday is no surprise.

However, it was the way Calipari phrased his recruiting statement that has fans and media wondering what’s up.

This also comes on the heels of Jemarl Baker being lost for three months due to knee surgery, making this UK backcourt dangerously thin for a 30-plus game season approaching.

Perhaps Calipari has his eye on a guard to add as a mid-year enrollee for the second semester. I doubt it, but then again, Calipari is no stranger to mid-year enrollees. He added Hamidou Diallo for the second semester in the 2016-17 season. That came after adding Tai Wynyard in the same scenario during the 2015-16 season.

Or, maybe Calipari is referring to adding another player to his 2018 class. That seems more likely, but then why would he say “one more guy?”

That is, unless Calipari already has silent commitments from several players in the class, and now he just wants to add one more player to it. That’s not unheard of, but it’s hard to see Calipari already having silent pledges from a group that includes Zion, Keldon Johnson, RJ Barrett, Bol Bol, Quentin Grimes and/or Herro.

Right now, UK only has one confirmed pledge from Immanuel Quickley in the 2018 class, so they need way more than one more guy in this class, unless Calipari plans on losing no one to the NBA Draft next year.

That’s the unlikeliest scenario of everything mentioned above, but hey, we can dream, right?

So, what is answer to this “one more guy” mystery?
