Jemarl Barker is arguably the best shooter on Kentucky’s team.
Unfortunately, his status as of late has been questionable. Fans really don’t know when they’ll see him on the court doing his thing.
Here’s what Cal had to say about Barker when he was asked about him at his press conference:
“It looks like he will have another scope on Friday,” Calipari Said. “That’s what appears to be the case. The operation he did back in California before he got here, for some reason, it didn’t heal or whatever the way it should have. They’re gonna probably take another look in there to see what it is.”
Depending on the severity of the issue and the scope being done, Baker could miss several more weeks of action. He expressed that he had soreness in knee before the preseason started. Now, no one really knows how significant this injury could be, and that’s very concerning.
This is not the news anyone wanted to hear. With the lack of shooting in Kentucky’s backcourt, missing Barker for a significant time could really hurt the Cats.
Expect to see Kentucky play extremely aggressive, driving to the rim consistently because of that lack of shooting early on in the season.
No one really knows what’s going on with Jermal or Jarred. Their injuries are unfortunate, but it’s something this team has to get used to and move on from. There is still plenty of talent on this team to be good.
The Wildcats play their first exhibition game on Friday night against Thomas More College at 7:00 pm.
