The Kentucky Wildcats are catching a break when they host the Tennessee Volunteers.
On Wednesday, it was announced that star running back John Kelly was suspended for the game. Kelly is the Vols’ leading rusher, but he was cited for misdemeanor drug possession following a traffic stop Tuesday night, along with backup linebacker Will Ignont.
"John Kelly and Will Ignont will be suspended for the Kentucky game as a result of the incident on Tuesday night," Jones said. "Members of our football team have a responsibility to represent the University of Tennessee in a first-class manner. I met with John and Will and they understand their actions were unacceptable."
Kelly ranks fourth in the SEC with 615 rushing yards this season to go with six touchdowns.
That part about having a responsibility to represent the school well is kind of silly when you realize Rashaan Gaulden will play Saturday. In case you missed it, Gaulden gave the old double-bird salute to the Alabama student section following a touchdown in last weekend’s 45-7 loss to the Crimson Tide.
Despite that, Jones said Gaulden was getting an “in-house” punishment for it that won’t keep him off the field against Kentucky.
