John Calipari recaps win over Auburn; Cats can be special, but still a ways away

The Cats have a lot of work to do to become capable of winning No. 9.

Winning is nice, but John Calipari isn’t happy with how his Cats looked this past week.

That’s especially true of Saturday’s win over Auburn, a game in which UK was favored by 24 points in, but struggled enough that the Tigers were within six points with eight minutes left.

Though the Cats would finish strong, letting an undermanned team push UK like that at home was something Calipari was not happy with.

"I had to fight them the whole game. I don't enjoy coaching the way I coached today. I should be a cheerleader," Calipari said following the 92-72 win. "Obviously, they are not ready for that."

And while this team shows a world of potential at time, they’ve been unable to make it work on both sides of the court for 40 minutes. Once these Cats get there, Calipari thinks they can become something truly special, but they’ve still got a lot of work to do in order to get there.

"I still think we're a month away to being what we need this thing to be if we're going to be one of those teams at the end," Calipari said, "because we're not there right now."

Here is what Calipari had to say about the game:
