Kentucky continues to surge in the recruitment of Mohamed Bamba, and now the five-star forward is coming to Lexington for his official visit.
According to Andrew Slater of 247 Sports, Bamba will take one of his five official visits to UK this coming week. It will likely begin Friday, January 20th, and run through Sunday, allowing Bamba to take in Saturday’s big matchup with South Carolina.
Bamba, who hails from Norristown (PA) by way of Westtown School, is a consensus top-four prospect in all the major recruiting services. Scout.com has him No. 2 overall in 2017, while ESPN and Rivals.com have him at No. 4. 247 has him at No. 3.
UK is battling the likes of Duke, Texas, Michigan, Harvard, UConn and Syracuse for the 6-11, 207-pound big man. He’s only taken official visits to Texas and Michigan, but he was in Lexington for Big Blue Madness, and now he’s taking his official visit just three months later.
If you recall, Bamba is one of three players that current UK signee Quade Green is recruiting to UK. The other two were Kevin Knox and Hamidou Diallo, the latter of which having just joined UK this week.
UK will host Knox for his official visit on the weekend of January 28th when Kansas comes to town. It makes sense Bamba will visit the week before so UK can dedicate as much attention to each guy as possible for the next two weekends.
Still, we shouldn’t expect a decision from Bamba before the NCAA Tournament, and he’ll probably wait into April/May to see who leaves for the NBA Draft. UK is in great shape, but there’s a long way to go in this recruitment.
