Vanderbilt coach Bryce Drew asks students not to rush the court after Kentucky game

That...seems a little optimistic.

The Commodores may be double-digit underdogs vs Kentucky, but that’s not keeping their head coach from being ‘optimistic’ about how the game will end.

In a message to the students of Vanderbilt University today, head coach Bryce Drew praised the energy and passion of the Commodore fan base. However, he did request that they conduct themselves safely and not rush the court, which they would only do if they got a victory over the No. 6 Kentucky Wildcats tonight.

It may be true that Memorial Gym is a tough place to play, but it is incredibly naive for the first-year Vandy coach to make a statement like this.

Kentucky has been obliterating SEC competition (winning by more than 30 points per game) without any excessive motivation, and this bulletin board material may be enough to get the Commodores run out of the gym. It certainly got the Wildcats’ attention, so expect them to come into this game with a little more edge if they weren’t already hyped for it.

How dumb was this move by Drew?
