Nick Weatherspoon commits to Mississippi State Bulldogs

A big get for the SEC, especially when it’s a prospect that UK was looking at.

It looks like the Kentucky Wildcats’ brief flirtation with Nick Weatherspoon is over.

On Sunday, Weatherspoon committed to the Mississippi State Bulldogs. He announced his decision on Twitter:

This come not long after UK contacted Weatherspoon and appeared to have legitimate interest in the 6-2, 173-pound point guard out Velma Jackson High School.

While UK would have been an attractive option for Weatherspoon, family was ultimately going to win out here. The Mississippi native not only wanted to stay close to home in college, but Nick's older brother, Quinndary Weatherspoon, already plays at Mississippi State. Quinndary averaged 12 points and 4.7 boards as a freshman for the Bulldogs last season.

While UK wants Trae Young as their top point guard, they also want to add a second point guard in this class. Getting a guy as talented as Weatherspoon to be the second guy at any school was going to be a tough sell.
