Matt Elam doesn't seem too worried about Shannon Dawson's return to Lexington.
Elam, now entering his junior season at UK, is projected to start as nose tackle Saturday against a high-powered Southern Miss offense, which just so happens to feature Dawson as the offensive coordinator of. Dawson's one-year disaster as UK's OC is something Wildcat fans would rather forget.
For Elam, he has no problem remembering how bad Dawson's offense looked, especially in practice against UK's defense. Following Wednesday's practice, Elam tossed out a little jab at Dawson ahead of Saturday's game.
“(Last season) In practice, I felt like the defense always got the best of him (Dawson).,” said Elam, via KSR. “He’s going to go down there and run what he runs. We just gotta stop it.”
Here is a video of Elam’s comments:
Elam may be right about last year, but Dawson has a pretty good offense he’s taking over at Southern Miss, so hopefully this playful jab doesn’t come back to bite Elam. He didn’t exactly set the world on fire last year either.
