The Kentucky Wildcats may be focusing on Trae Young in 2017, but they're keeping tabs on other point guards.
Nick Weatherspoon has quietly climbed up the rankings this year, so much that he's now being a five-star prospect in just about every major recruiting service. That may explain why John Calipari and his staff are keeping tabs on Weatherspoon.
According to Garrett Tucker of HoopSeen.com, UK recently contacted Weatherspoon, and it sounds like they may start recruiting him going forward.
Mississippi native and Kentucky assistant coach Kenny Payne put in a call to Weatherspoon, who is ranked No. 21 in the HoopSeen125 Rankings.
"Coach Payne was just talking to me about the program and how the program goes, and how I could fit with them. He wants to build a relationship with me," Weatherspoon explained.
While UK would be an attractive option for Weatherspoon, family may keep the Mississippi native close to home in college. Nick's older brother, Quinndary Weatherspoon, averaged 12 points and 4.7 boards as a freshman for Mississippi State last season.
Nick is widely expected to join his brother in Starkville next year, as indicated by his 247 Crystal Ball with MSU getting all 18 picks.
Still, you never can count Calipari and UK out of any recruitment, so this will be something to monitor going forward.
