New SEC Power Rankings with the season inching closer...

John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

With the 2016 college football season almost here, ESPN has put out a new edition of their SEC Power Rankings.

Of course, defending national champion Alabama took home the top spot in a loaded SEC West. In fact, three western teams top the rankings with LSU coming in second and Ole Miss third.

Tennessee leads the way in the SEC East, and while they may not have quite as much firepower as several teams in the West, the Vols are still easily the best in the East.

As for the Cats, they come in at what seems like a fair spot at No. 12, ahead of Missouri and South Carolina. But Vanderbilt ahead of UK? I just can't see the Dores being the fourth-best team in the East while being better than UK, Missouri and South Carolina.

One other notable ranking is Mississippi State at No. 10, a mere two spots ahead of UK. The fact that UK gets to host three of the bottom-five SEC teams bodes well for their odds of making a bowl game this season, not to mention playing at Missouri against a Tigers team challenging South Carolina to be the worst in the SEC.

Here are the full ESPN SEC power rankings.
