Kris Wilkes cuts Kentucky Wildcats from new list

Recruiting is no easy task, even when it comes to the Kentucky Wildcats.

Even with John Calipari having UK at least in the discussion for just about every major recruit, that in turn presents the issue of Cal having to decide which guys he wants among so many talented players. In 2017, that includes a loaded crop of elite wing prospects, one of which being five-star forward Kris Wilkes.

Despite UK once appearing to be his favorite, Wilkes is no longer considering the Cats after releasing his latest list.

As you'll see, North Carolina, Arizona, Butler, UCLA, UConn, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio State, Illinois, Washington and Xavier made the cut, but not UK.

Wilkes, who is ranked a top-20 prospect by every major recruiting service, is also ESPN's 11th-overall prospect for next year. For awhile now, UK has been firmly in the mix in his recruitment, but a lack of an offer and more interest by UK had caused Wilkes to sour on the Cats.

However, Calipari has yet to offer Wilkes with UK in the mix for several highly-touted wings in 2017. Between John Petty, Kevin Knox, Jarred Vanderbilt, and possibly Jermaine Samuels and Andre Rafus, UK has plenty of options on the wing, not to mention several other bigger guards (Hamidou Diallo) and athletic power forwards (P.J. Washington) who can play the wing as well.
