Kentucky Wildcats Basketball: Slice Parting Ways with St. John's

Barry "Slice" Rohrssen and St. John's are no more.

Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports

Former Kentucky Wildcats assistant basketball coach and lead recruiter Barry "Slice" Rohrssen parted ways with the program and headed to St. John's when Chris Mullins took the head coaching job for the Red Storm.

But now Slice is back on the market as he is leaving the program after one season. From Adam Zagoria:

St. John's and associate head coach Barry "Slice" Rohrssen are finalizing a buyout agreement and will soon part ways, multiple sources told SNY.tv.

After leaving John Calipari's staff at Kentucky to return to his native New York for the 2015-16 season, Rohrssen served under first year coach and close friend Chris Mullin when the Red Storm finished 8-24, 1-17 in the Big East. Rohrssen had several years left on his contract.

"He definitely will not be back at St. John's next year," one source said.

Both sides declined comment for this story.

Details are not clear about why Slice is leaving or where he may go from here. Slice was extremely successful in his tenure at Kentucky and one has to wonder if he may still have a spot on John Calipari's bench. After all, the 2017 class may be the most important in Calipari's career at Kentucky as most of his 2016 team will be graduating or heading for the pros.
