Could Kentucky Wildcats guard Jamal Murray actually go No. 1 overall to the 76ers or even No. 2 to the Lakers?
To this point, LSU forward Ben Simmons and Duke forward Brandon Ingram have been viewed as the heavy favorites to go No. 1 and 2 in the 2016 NBA Draft. Murray has gotten a lot of talk as being the draft's third-best prospect, but now it appears some may actually think he'll be the best to come out of this draft.
Marc Eversley, the 76ers vice president of player personnel, gave the impression to Philly.com that Simmons and Ingram aren't the lone prospects being considered for the top pick.
"Jamal Murray, we certainly got a chance to see him a couple of weeks ago. He’s certainly going to be one of those kids who’s going to be in contention for the No. 1 pick. "We like him a lot. He’s going to bring a lot to wherever he goes in the NBA, certainly a talent."
There's also the potential for the 76ers to take Simmons No. 1, then move up back into the top 3-5 picks to get Murray if he's still there.
Some within the Sixers organization believe that he has the biggest upside of any of the draft prospects. However, NBA insiders think it would be a reach to draft anyone outside of Simmons or Ingram first overall.
The Sixers could, however, try to acquire the third overall pick from the Boston Celtics and select Murray with that pick.
Whatever happens, it certainly appears the Sixers really like Murray, so don't be surprised if he ends up there come Draft Night. The only question is how it will happen.
