Kentucky Wildcats Quickies: King James Edition

A championship returns to Cleveland, Mark Stoops gets a much needed recruit. Jedrick WIllis shines, and more!

Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports

It had been over five decades since the city of Cleveland last saw a championship. Until last night. LeBron James returned to Cleveland in order to bring a championship to the city he loves andhe delivered on that promise on the road in Game 7 of the NBA Finals.

The Cavaliers were the first team to ever win a championship series when down 3-1 and LeBron is only the third player in NBA history to record a triple-double in a Game 7. This is James' third title and his third Finals MVP.

The Warriors set their own records this season, including being the first team to win 73 regular season games beating the previous mark of 72 held by the '98 Bulls. But unlike the Bulls, the Warriors did not win the postseason, thus their record rings hollow. Sound familiar, Kentucky fans?

At the end of the night, LeBron secured himself as one of the greatest players to ever play basketball, and there wasn't much doubt in that in the first place. James' detractors are awfully quiet today. Other than Kyrie Irving, James didn't have a lot to work with compared to the Warriors.

Tweets of the Day

This last tweet is huge. Mark Stoops needed some good news in recruiting and boy did he get it with Jarren Williams.

Quickies

ICYMI 2018 QB Jarren WIlliams commits to Kentucky- Williams held offers from Florida State, Louisville, Houston, and West Virginia among others. He is described as a duel threat QB by Rivlas and was just recently at Kentucky for a visit. I know a lot can happen between now and 2018, but this would be ideal for Kentucky with Drew Barker and Gunnar Hoak looking to be the quarterbacks up until that point. But it is IMPERATIVE that the 'Cats win and go to a bowl this season.

Bud Dupree feeling more comfortable in year two of the NFL- The former Wildcat has taken on Steelers' linebacker James Harrison as a mentor and now he feels he doesn't have to think as much and can now just go out and play. Dupree has pro-bowl ability and will be an asset for the Steelers for years to come.

Dustin Johnson wins the US Open- Jordan Spieth had a great 2015 but I don't think he is the next Tiger Woods. The parity in professional golf continues.

Bold predictions for the 106-2017 Kentucky Wildcats basketball team- Malik Monk breaking Jamal Murray's scoring record is the boldest in my opinion.

Another Team USA setback won’t stop top basketball recruit Cameron Reddish - A year ago, high school basketball star Cameron Reddish came to the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado with the goal of making the Team USA U16 national squad. Reddish didn’t make that team, but he did learn an important lesson.

National analyst predicts elite point guard to Duke -Duke may now be the favorite to land five-star point guard Quade Green, who both the Blue Devils and Wildcats are recruiting, though neither has yet to offer him, but that may change soon.

The Curious Case of Alex Poythress’ NBA Draft Stock - Alex was once considered a top-tier lottery prospect, and was even talked about as a potential first-overall pick at one time. Now, less than a week away from the NBA Draft, Alex is fighting just to hear his name called on draft night.

Jedrick Wills shines at Rivals100 camp - Rivals had some nice praise of the UK target, saying "This year, he entered as a five-star with a target on his back, but he more than defended his ranking with his showing. Wills is about 20 pounds lighter than he was a year ago, but he packs the same punch."

Enes Kanter or Crocodile Dundee? - Enes is free in Africa and doing his best Crocodile Dundee impression in the process.

Did you watch all of the NBA Game 7 or did you split time with Game of Thrones? (Spoilers)- I watched the first hour of the Finals, switched to GoT, then was able to watch the entire fourth quarter. The Battel of the Bastards did not disappoint and the show may have had it's best opening 10 minutes in history.

Actor Anton Yelchin dead at 27 in car accident- The actor was best known for playing Chekov in the newest Star Trek movies. He was found dead pinned between his car and his mailbox at the end of his driveway.
