Matthews was one of four Wildcats to play in all 36 games for during the 2015-16 season. Most of his time came in spot duty and whenever other guards were in foul trouble, but he always brought good energy and hustle plays off the bench in his limited role.
The 6-5 Chicago guard averaged 1.7 points and 1.6 rebounds in helping the Wildcats claim the Southeastern Conference regular-season and tournament championships.
Matthews’ season highlights included a career-high 11-point outburst vs. South Florida. He started three games and finished the year with 370 minutes played before deciding to transfer in May.
As a recruit, Matthews was ranked as a four-star prospect and No. 59 overall in the 2015 recruiting class by 247 Sports.
