Verne to step down from SEC football after '16. Cats cash in on neutral-site games Annual U of L-UK game set before Christmas. STAR WARS NEWS! More.

Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

Verne Lundquist, the voice of SEC football (and other sports) on CBS since 2000, has decided to step down from his lead college football role at CBS Sports following the 2016 season.

Lundquist, who is celebrating his 53rd year in broadcasting, will continue calling regular-season college basketball, the NCAA Tournament and golf, but he'll forever be remembered mainly for his calls of some of the best college football games every year.

Hopefully, UK can score a CBS game this year and get one more call from ol' Verne.

Cats cash in on neutral-site games - LCJ
What does Kentucky basketball get for playing four neutral-site non-conference games this season? Nearly $1 million. Kentucky’s priority is to maintain at least 19 home dates (including exhibitions) per season, so it doesn’t need to raise ticket prices to make up the revenue. Factoring in nine SEC road games annually, that leaves five non-conference games per season that can be away from Rupp Arena, which UK makes $$$ off of.
