Family, friends and former teammates of Ed Davender gathered Thursday to remember the former Kentucky basketball star.
Last week, Davender suffered a heart attack during a taxi ride home from Keeneland. He died two days later at UK Hospital at the age of 49. Davender's Thursday visitation was at First Baptist Church Bracktown before the funeral followed.
After the services, Davender was buried at Lexington Cemetery.
Former UK head coach Joe B. Hall was among those in attendance to pay their respects. Hall recruited Davender and was his coach during his freshman season in 1984-1985 before retiring. "Everybody loved Ed Davender. You couldn't be around him without appreciating his sincerity, his competitiveness and just the great person that he was," said Hall.
Former UK greats Rex Chapman, Kenny "Sky" Walker and current UK head coach John Calipari were also among those in attendance.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Davender, his family and friends.
