Wendell Carter says UK above Duke on his list; Gary Trent package deal still on

Duke has been viewed as the favorite for elite big man Wendell Carter, but he disagrees and remains committed to a package deal with Gray Trent.

For much of Wendell Carter Jr.'s recruitment, the belief has been that the Duke Blue Devils were the favorite for the five-star center's services.

Not so fast according to Carter himself. He told SNY.tv on Sunday that the Kentucky Wildcats are actually higher on his list than Duke is as of now.

"Kentucky would be higher for me," Carter Jr. said. "They are known for getting players to the NBA, that's what they do best."

Carter also reemphasized that the planned package deal with five-star guard Gary Trent Jr. is still on.

"It's a definite that we will be going to college together," Carter said.

"It would be great to go there," said the 6-foot-10 Carter out of Atlanta (GA) Pace Academy. "They have a great track record of getting players to the NBA."

Carter also did say the Duke is still firmly in the mix for both he and Trent in next year's school thanks in large part to Duke adopting the one-and-done approach, just as UK has under John Calipari.

"It would be great to go there," said Carter. "They have a great track record of getting players to the NBA."

This is shaping up to be quite the battle between UK and Duke for yet another elite prospect.
