Bat Cats Shellacked in Oxford, Lose Game and Series to Ole Miss 14-2

UK Athletics

The Kentucky Bat Cats (29-22, 13-13) took one on the chin, 14-2, against host Ole Miss (38-13, 16-10) on Friday night.

Dustin Beggs survived a scant four innings on the mound and gave up nine runs: three in the 1st inning, another three in the 4th and another three in the 5th. All in all, Beggs gave up 14 hits (including two home runs), struck out four and allowed zero walks.

Brad Schaenzer didn’t last fare well in relief of Beggs. In less than an inning of work he gave up two hits, two runs and a walk.

Zach Pop’s 2.2 innings were a modest success: he gave up a run on two hits. However, his two K’s were negated by a pair of walks.

Daniel Tillo struggled to close out the game. Ole Miss scored two runs with three hits off of him.

Kentucky’s hitters struggled to gain traction against the Ole Miss pitching duo of David Parkinson and Andy Pagnozzi. The Wildcats got eight hits as a team but left six runners on base, a problem that carried over from Thursday’s loss.

Gunnar McNeil was the only Wildcat to have a multi-hit game. He went 2-of-4 and drove runs via a sacrifice drive in the 5th and a single in the top of the 9th.

The Wildcats and the Rebels will play again Saturday evening at 5:00 P.M.
