Louisville vs Kentucky Basketball Game Being Moved Up This Year

The UK vs UL game is being moved back, and it's in part because of UL's big matchup with the Hoosiers.

It looks like the Kentucky Wildcats' annual rivalry game with the Louisville Cardinals may be happening at an earlier date this year.

The big in-state showdown between Bluegrass rivals has typically been played at the end of December, sometimes just before or after Christmas. It's even been played around New Year's Eve/Day at times, but this year, it doesn't look like it will fall on one of those holidays.

According to the Louisville Courier-Journal, the game is potentially being moved back, and it's in part because of UL's big matchup with the Indiana Hoosiers:

The 50th meeting between the archrivals is slated to be played before Christmas for the first time in 10 years, a copy of the series contract obtained by The Courier-Journal shows.

The rivalry game, which has been played on the Saturday following Christmas for the past five seasons, is scheduled for either Tuesday, Dec. 20, or Wednesday, Dec. 21, at the KFC Yum! Center, the contract says.

Television usually plays a part in the timing of games, though this season's New Year's Eve matchup between Louisville and Indiana had to have been a factor in the change in the UK-U of L game's date. Dec. 31 this year is the Saturday after Christmas.

The Cards and Hoosiers are contracted to meet at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, though no tip time has been set just yet.

Personally, I LOVE this for everyone involved. I hate having a game full of so much animosity, and at times hatred, being played during the holidays and sometimes even on Christmas. I hate seeing any sporting event take place then, but that's just how it goes.

Thankfully, it does not appear Kentucky vs Louisville will take place on or right after a holiday this year.
