Road to Rupp: March 5th Edition

March Madness survived up its first dish of insanity here in the Commonwealth Friday night.

Last night’s 7th Region clash between Trinity and Ballard was an instant classic. Both teams blew significant leads and battled back-and-forth down the stretch. The Shamrocks were up three late in the game but Ballard tied it on an 80 foot shot at the buzzer to send the game into overtime. Unfortunately for the Bruins they were not able to seize the momentum and Trinity outlasted their rivals to move into the region finals.

Saturday did not have near the drama, but the 11th Region semifinals provided two quality matchups between four of the best team in Central Kentucky.

Scotty County survived an early barrage from Lafayette to advance to yet another 11th Region Championship. The Generals poor free throw shooting also hindered their efforts for victory.

The Bulldogs from Paul Laurence Dunbar were neck and neck with Henry Clay for most of the night but were finally able to pull away by a head down the stretch to set up what has the potential to be a classic with Scott County in the finals.
