March is here and the jobs of bracketologists such as Joe Lunardi are about to become a public service to many Americans. However, that is usually reserved for the men’s tournament, but fear not fans of women’s basketball because potential bracket breakdowns do exist for the ladies.
To be fair though, readers of this site only want news about one women’s team, UK Hoops. So let’s see where Matthew Mitchell’s team is trending now coming off of a huge win at Texas A&M on Sunday.
ESPN’s Charlie Creme, as of March 1st, has the Cats as a four seed in the Dallas Region playing the winner of the Patriot League, which means that the Kentucky would play host for the first two rounds in Lexington. A potential second-round matchup with either Michigan State would loom if Kentucky were to advance in this scenario. Also, in Creme’s projected bracket Kentucky would potentially play Baylor in the Sweet 16, a change from recent matchups with the juggernaut Connecticut Huskies program.
Collegesportsmadness.com has Kentucky as a five seed in the Dallas Region playing George Washington in the first round in Palo Alto, California according to their February 28th projection. If Kentucky were to advance in this scenario they would play either host Stanford or Ohio. If the Cats make it to the Sweet 16 then a potential matchup with Baylor would await them. Kentucky has defeated the Bears in the past. Also, archrival Louisville is projected as a three seed.
Regardless of where they stand now in the expert’s eyes, Kentucky has an excellent chance to improve their seeding in this week’s SEC tournament and one can assume that a good showing will clinch them at least a four seed at chance to host a sub-regional.
