Matthew Mitchell's UK Hoops just finished up a great regular season that saw the Cats go 23-7 and 10-6 in the ultra-competitive SEC.
For their efforts, UK was awarded a No. 3 seed in the Lexington Regional. That means the Cats will play in Memorial Coliseum for the first and second rounds and then Rupp Arena for the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight if they make it that far.
Here is a link to the info for the Rupp games, and here is the bracket for this region:
The Cats' first game comes Saturday against the UNC-Asheville Bulldogs at 4 p.m. ET in Memorial Coliseum.
Oklahoma is the No. 6 seed, so that's the likely opponent for the second round if UK wins their first game. Maryland will be the No. 2 seed, and they'll be the likeliest team UK faces if they make it to the Sweet 16.
As for the No. 1 seed, that goes to Notre Dame, who went 31-1 this past season and finished the regular season ranked No. 2 overall behind the undefeated UConn Huskies.
Oh, and Mitchell got him a nice bonus:
Kentucky women's basketball team's NCAA tourney bid means bonus of nearly $65,000 for coach Matthew Mitchell (equal to 1 mo. of $775K base)— Steve Berkowitz (@ByBerkowitz) March 14, 2016
UK will play their first game on Saturday and then again on Monday if they win. The Sweet 16 is March 25th before the Elite 8 on 27th.
Congratulations to the Cats for a great season thus far, and good luck making it even more memorable as March Madness rolls on.
