With the (relative) success that Kentucky had this season, you’d like to keep as much stability in the program as possible going into next year. But according to Fox Sports, there’s a slight chance that we could see some major coaching shake-up.
With an opening at the head coaching position at South Florida, Fox Sports has compiled a list of candidates to take the job. One of those is Kentucky’s offensive coordinator, Eddie Gran.
Kentucky offensive coordinator Eddie Gran is another guy who has spent decades cultivating relationships throughout Florida. Gran helped spark Kentucky’s rise out of mediocrity this fall; the Wildcats’ offense was third in the SEC in yards per play. He’s also highly regarded within coaching circles.
Kentucky’s offense wasn’t perfect, but Gran helped produce a 7-5 record with a backup quarterback, so he definitely deserves some credit for that. Gran’s connections in Florida would certainly help him if he were to coach USF as well.
He’s not exactly first on the list; in fact he’s actually near the bottom, mentioned with other potential first-time head coaching candidates. However, hearing Gran mentioned for a head coaching job shows that this staff may not be intact for very long.
Hats off to Gran for getting a mention like this, but keeping this staff intact would help the Cats keep growing.
