Kentucky and Louisville will face off in their annual rivalry matchup Wednesday night at the KFC Yum! Center.
The Wildcats enter the game at 10-1 following an impressive 103-100 win over a top 10 UNC team in Las Vegas on Saturday. The Cardinals come in with an identical 10-1 record, coming off an 87-56 win over Eastern Kentucky.
Kentucky has held the edge in the series recently, going 8-1 versus Louisville since John Calipari took over in the 2009-2010 season. The game will present different problems for a young Wildcats squad. This will be Kentucky’s first true road game of the season. Although the game is in Louisville and many Kentucky fans will be in attendance, true road games often cause trouble for young teams.
Louisville will also probably look to slow down the game and avoid getting into a track meet with the Wildcats. Kentucky will have to execute well in the half-court, especially offensively, against a Cardinals squad that is only allowing 59.4 points per game on the defensive end.
The Cardinals have had their own struggles on the offensive end at times, but also have the ability to score in spurts, led by sophomore Donovan Mitchell averaging about 12 ppg and Quentin Snider averaging nearly 11 ppg.
The Wildcats and the Cardinals are known for playing close throughout the last several years, with all but one of the last nine matchups being decided by single digits. I expect another single-digit margin this time around.
